Apple Will Not Lower The Performance Of The A17 Pro When It Issues The Overheating Fix In The Next iOS 17 Update

A software update that is a part of the iOS 17 series will be issued to address the overheating issue on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. While Apple continues to work with app developers to ensure that problems are resolved, the company will not lower the performance of its latest A17 Pro to mitigate those rising temperatures.

Apple also states that overheating on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max is not a safety risk, but it might degrade the battery a lot faster

It was believed that a part of the overheating on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max was due to the lack of power efficiency of the A17 Pro when it was stressed. Even though Apple’s latest SoC is mass produced on TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm manufacturing process, owners of the latest flagships reported that the devices became too hot to touch or use normally.

Some tests also revealed that the A17 Pro consumes more power than the A16 Bionic, likely to maintain its performance lead, so while it might have a small part to play in the thermals, Apple telling Forbes that its performance will not be lowered suggests that it is not the main culprit. In a statement, the technology giant stated that third-party apps such as Uber, and Asphalt 9: Legends were responsible for the overheating issue.

A YouTuber also found that Instagram running on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max contributed to the problem, but according to the latest update, that issue has been addressed. Apple states that overheating will not have any deleterious effects on long-term performance and should not considered a safety risk.

The company has incorporated several protections to ensure that the components are not harmed, but the rise in temperatures may cause the battery to degrade faster. Currently, iOS 17.1 beta does not reduce the performance of the A17 Pro, so it is likely that the official update will not alter the chipset’s attributes either.

It is understandable why Apple does not wish to throttle the A17 Pro’s capabilities, especially with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Dimensity 9300 launch right around the corner, so if notable changes can be observed with a future software, we can all agree that the majority of users will be satisfied without sacrificing performance.
