Mortal Kombat 1 – What Koins, Seasonal Kredits, and Dragon Krystals Do and How to Get Them

Mortal Kombat 1

Mortal Kombat 1 marks the latest entry in the blood-soaked fighting series, and it looks to deliver a satisfying fresh dose of ultraviolence for longtime fans. In addition to a new tag-team mechanic that lets you pair a main character with a backup “Kameo” fighter, you can look forward to an epic all-new story, regular seasonal updates that will add new Invasion mode missions, and more.

This latest entry in the Mortal Kombat series is very much a live-service game, and as such, the game has a rather baffling array of currencies, all of which serve a unique purpose and can be earned in different ways. Thankfully, we’re here to take some of the mystery out of the process (and keep you from accidentally spending any real money if you don’t want to). Scroll on for a full rundown of all of Mortal Kombat 1’s various currencies…

What are Koins?

Koins are probably the most common currency you will accumulate in the game, and are represented by a gold coin symbol. They’re exclusively used in the “Shrine” which is basically a gacha system where you can claim randomized prizes, including cosmetics and some unique rewards like concept art. Each randomized prize will cost you 1000 Koins.

How do you earn Koins?

You get Koins from pretty much everything you do in Mortal Kombat 1. Story mode, Invasion mode, Towers, online multiplayer, daily and weekly quests, you name it. Another thing not to overlook, is that completing all of MK1’s training challenges will net you quite a large number of Koins (over 40,000 of them).

What are Seasonal Kredits?

Seasonal Kredits are earned in-game via various means and represented by a silver coin symbol. Your Kredits can be spent in the Seasonal Items section of the Mortal Kombat 1 store on a variety of limited-time cosmetics.

How do you earn Seasonal Kredits?

You’ll earn Seasonal Kredits in Invasion mode, online, and by completing daily and weekly quests.

What are Dragon Krystals?

And this would be your premium currency, which you have to buy with real money. These can be spent on Premium Items in the Mortal Kombat 1 store, which include cosmetics as well as some gameplay helpers, like Easy Fatality Tokens.

How do you earn Dragon Krystals?

Aside from a limited number you’ll get for finishing Story mode, you’ve got to buy them. You can get 500 Krystals for $5, 1,150 for $10, 2,500 for $20, and 5,600 for $40. Princes on the things you can buy range, but generally, a full skin will cost you between 600 and 800 Krystals.

What are Krowns?

Yes, there is actually one last currency, just to confuse things further. This one is only found in Invasion mode though, to be used in that mode’s shops on consumable items and the like. They’re not really part of MK1’s live service ecosystem.

There you go – Mortal Kombat 1’s live service currencies demystified. Go forth, and don’t spend too much on Dragon Krystals.

Mortal Kombat 1 launches on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Switch on September 19, although those who have purchased the premium editions of the game can already play. You can check out more of Wccftech’s Mortal Kombat 1 guides here.
