Former World of Warcraft Classic Lead Teases Something Special as Encrypted WoW Classic Patch 1.15 Surfaces

wow classic patch 1.15

The former World of Warcraft Classic lead, Brian Birmingham, has taken to Twitter to tease something special coming to Blizzard's original classic server option, possibly WoW Classic Patch 1.15.

Birmingham left the Classic dev team earlier this year, but the World of Warcraft veteran has responded to a recent find about a new encrypted classic update surfacing on Blizzard's Vendor CDN.  As said, some days ago, an encrypted build of WoW Classic patch 1.15 was spotted on the "WoW Dev 2" CDN branch, but unfortunately, the contents of this update are locked behind encryption. Website Icy Veins has already suggested that this update might be related to Season of Mastery 2, and Birmingham has now also hinted that something is indeed cooking for World of Warcraft Classic.

"I’m a little bit biased, but I think you’ll like it, the former World of Warcraft Classic Lead wrote on Twitter some days ago. Following some replies on this tweet, Birmingham has today responded to a fan asking if this could mean that WoW Classic + is coming, saying that he can't confirm or deny that new content is coming to Blizzard's original vanilla server option in the form of WoW Classic +.

"I can neither confirm or deny, of course, but I can say that I always loved that idea", he wrote on Twitter today.

Interesting stuff, and we're pretty sure that World of Warcraft Classic fans will appreciate new content for WoW Classic. Of course, this is merely a rumor for now as Blizzard has yet to comment on the arrival of this encrypted 1.5 patch.  As always, we will keep you updated.

What would you like to see in a new round of content for WoW Classic? Could it be Hardcore servers? Or the second Season of Mastery as Icy Veins already suggested? New zones or dungeons? Hit the comments down below.

World of Warcraft Classic is available globally now for PC. The vanilla server option was launched in 2019, followed by The Burning Crusade Classic in 2021, and Wrath of the Lich King Classic late last year. Here's what we wrote about WoW Classic in 2019:

"But my gripes are honestly pretty minor", Dave Aubrey wrote. "As of right now, World of Warcraft Classic has done it. It has officially got its hooks into me, and when I realized my 30-day game card had finally expired, I felt tempted to buy more time. After years of not touching another MMO, World of Warcraft has me again, and I think I'm going back, just until I reach level 60 at least…"
