Apple's upcoming flagship smartphones will have a lot in store for users in terms of design and usability. We have previously heard that the company is looking to adopt a solid-state approach for the Volume and Power buttons along with the Mute switch. However, the company is also planning to implement a wide range of changes that will impact usability. According to the latest, the iPhone 15 Pro models will come with efficient LiDAR scanners, ultimately contributing to enhanced battery life.

If you are not following the latest in terms of Apple's forthcoming 'Pro' handsets, the company is planning to change one of the key design elements. The iPhone 15 Pro models will ditch the current Volume button mechanism in favor of solid-state buttons with three Taptic Engines inside the chassis of the device. Additionally, the device will be powered by an A17 Bionic chip which will be fabricated on TSMC's 3nm process. Performance gains aside, the iPhone 15 Pro models will feature improved battery life due to the less power-hungry nature of the chip.

According to Blayne Curtis and Tom O'Malley from Barclays, Sony will act as the main supplier of LiDAR Scanner equipment to Apple. This is not the first time that we are hearing details on Sony scoring the majority of sensor modules as analyst Ming-Chi Kuo highlighted the switch back in February. To be precise, Sony would supply the sensor module, VSCEL, receiver, and driver.

There is a reason why Apple is moving away from Lumentum and WIN Semiconductors and it has everything to do with the efficiency and performance of the scanner. Sony's iteration of the sensor will be less power-hungry and provides enhanced performance. Another scenario is that the sensor could offer the same results but contribute to better battery on the iPhone 15 Pro models.

Conjoined with the A17 Bionic chip, the LiDAR scanner on the iPhone 15 Pro will contribute to better battery life than the current models. We have also previously heard that Apple is looking to use its in-house 5G modems which are also slated to consume less power and deliver enhanced connectivity. However, it is not clear if Apple will move ahead with its custom modems or use Qualcomm's.
