Instagram For iPad Might Not Happen Any Time Soon Unless The iPad Sells as Well as The iPhone
Instagram is one of the most widely used apps on the iPhone as well as Android and the platform has also made it to the web. While users have been asking for an iPad app for years, the company has not made up its mind yet to release an official Instagram app for a bigger screen. While we have heard in the past that the company is working on an optimized version, it appears that users would have to wait for an indefinite period of time for Insatgram to arrive on the iPad.
Instagram for iPad will have to wait longer as the company currently has no plans for it
Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri stated that the platform is not his priority at this moment. Mosseri answered the question on Instagram Stories where a user asked when Instagram will release a native app for the iPad. The company is "not working on it right now" but the executive left the door open for the future. Mosseri suggested that an Instagram app for the iPad that would be a good thing to have in the future but the company prefers working on more important extensions at the moment.
Since Instagram is a photo and video-sharing platform, the iPad would make a pretty good medium for the app. However, there are certain reasons that prevent the company from working on a dedicated app. One of the major reasons is a weak user base. What this means is that compared to the iPhone, iPad shipments were less than one-fourth in the second quarter of this year. While the number is huge on its own, it is still not encouraging enough to convince developers to work on a dedicated Instagram app for the iPad.
From the company's standpoint, Instagram makes more sense on the iPhone as it utilizes the cameras on the devices. Users generally have their iPhone with them at all times to take a picture or video that can be posted without any hassle. However, the iPad features a bigger display that allows for a better editing experience. Brands and influencers can edit their content on a bigger display which could open doors for additional features on the app.
Meta has already launched a web version of its Threads app, only a few months after the launch of the iPhone app. This means that the company has the resources and expertise to develop the Instagram app for the iPad. However, there are strategic decisions that the company is potentially taking into account that are restricting the company from making an Instagram app for the iPad.
