PlayStation Portal Pre-Orders Now Open Ahead of the Remote Play Device’s November Launch

PlayStation Portal

After months of rumors, Sony officially announced their Remote-Play-focused handheld the PlayStation Portal back in August, and now players can put down their money on the device. Coming in at $200, folks in the US can order the PlayStation Portal from retailers like Amazon, GameStop, and Sony’s own PlayStation Direct store. Those in the UK can also grab it from Amazon or the PlayStation Direct store, as well as from Game. In unknown how plentiful PlayStation Portal stock will be, but if you want to get one at launch, it’s best to pre-order early.

For those that haven’t been keeping up, the PlayStation Portal is not a standalone gaming device, but rather designed to work with Remote Play – in other words, you’ll also need a PS5 to wirelessly stream games from. That said, the device does have some nice features, including a 1080p screen and all the functionality of the DualSense controller. Here’s the full features list…

  • Put Your PS5 in the Palm of Your Hand - PlayStation Portal Remote Player gives you access to the games on your PS5 over your home Wi-Fi, letting you jump right into gaming without needing to play on a TV.
  • Play Your Game Collection - PlayStation Portal Remote Player can play compatible games you have installed on your PS5 console, including your favorite games for PS5 and PS4.
  • Experience Breathtaking Immersion with DualSense Wireless Controller Features - Feel the incredible immersion of haptic feedback and adaptive triggers in supported games.
  • Beautiful 8” LCD Screen - Take in every exquisite detail of your favorite games as they come alive on a brightly lit and gorgeous full HD screen.
  • 60fps Capable at 1080p Resolution - PlayStation Portal Remote Player can deliver silky-smooth gameplay at up to 60fps with high image clarity on its 1080p resolution screen.

The PlayStation Portal will be available on November 15. What do you think? Does the device hold any interest? While the asking price is probably a bit high for me, in a world where price was no object, I could see it being a useful little extra for when I want to play AAA games in bed or on the toi… er, in my office.
