Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 3 Officially Adds Mac Support, Improves Lower City Performance and Fixes Tons of Bugs
As promised, Larian Studios has released Baldur's Gate 3 patch 3, sized around 4.9GB on Steam. Earlier today, the developer told fans the new update would include the so-called Magic Mirror, a new feature that allows players to limitlessly change their appearance, albeit with some restrictions (no body type and race or subrace changes, plus Origin characters, full Illithids and hirelings cannot use the Magic Mirror).
Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 3 also officially introduces Mac support. Larian notes that saves from the early access build will be incompatible, just like with the PC release. To minimize any potential compatibility issues, the developers recommend uninstalling the game and removing mods before installing the new version. Larian also updated the Mac requirements; you can find them below. Beware that Larian assumes you've enabled AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution in the graphics settings.
-
- OS: macOS 12 or newer
- Processor: Apple M1
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Graphics: Apple M1
- Storage: 150 GB available space
- Additional Notes: Min specs can run the game on low to medium settings. Split-screen will not run at an acceptable level of performance. SSD required.
-
- OS: Latest macOS
- Processor: Apple M1 Pro or better
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: Apple M1 Pro or better

Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 3 also further improves performance in the game's Act 3, specifically in the Lower City area.
- Made many optimisations to make sure we reach our quality FPS target in most, if not all, regions of the game, stabilising 30 FPS on Quality Mode. We're continuing to work hard at stabilising 60 FPS.
- Improved performance while previewing shoving or pushing spells (e.g. Thunderwave).
- Improved performance by disabling faraway NPCs with automated overhead dialogues and in-world behaviours.
- Made several optimisations when moving around the world on controller.
- Improved performance when updating the cursor when preparing a spell.
- Improved performance in dense crowds.
- Improved character loading times.
- Improved minimap performance.
- Improved performance in the Lower City.
- Optimised the Level Up system.
- Optimised turn order calculations in combat.
- Optimised how the game handles projectiles.
- Optimised the lighting in the Shadow-Cursed Lands.
- Stopped calculating whether a save has missing mods unless it is selected in the UI.
- Stopped loading icons from Character Creation if the UI isn't open.
The full Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 3 changelog is immense, including tons of bug fixes and balance changes. You can review it in its entirety on the game's official website.
As a reminder, Larian will continue to add more character epilogues while also working on the Xbox Series S and X release, due before the end of the year.
