Samsung’s Rumored AR Headset To Rival Apple Vision Pro Said To Launch In June Next Year

Samsung AR headset to rival Apple Vision Pro

The Apple Vision Pro unveiling may have pushed the company’s rival products back to the drawing board, including Samsung, who was rumored to have pushed the launch date of its own AR headset to make it a worthy competitor. Due to this setback, the Korean giant’s head-mounted wearable is not expected to launch before June of next year, and even then, there could be several complications along the way.

Samsung’s early prototype was scrapped, with the company now seemingly starting from scratch to make a proper Apple Vision Pro rival

The Apple Vision Pro offers a significantly futuristic design, along with better hardware and display specifications, which prompted Samsung to delay the launch of its AR headset. According to Revegnus on X, the unveiling may happen in June 2024, though the individual’s wordings are slightly ambiguous. Given that the AR headset market is in its nascent stages and will take years to grow, Samsung may also be running into production issues when releasing its first-generation product.

With that being said, the post does not state if the device will be officially available to purchase in June of next year or if Samsung only intends to unveil the AR headset during the rumored timeline. We believe that it is the latter, which can only mean that the product may not be available until early 2025, and that too in limited regions. The earlier prototype that was scrapped by Samsung had a lackluster design and finish, and according to the previous rumor, the headset was powered by a last-generation Exynos 2200, an SoC found in the Galaxy S22 series and notorious for being inefficient and prone to overheating.

Unlike the Apple Vision Pro, this unnamed AR headset featured an internal battery and did not rely on an external puck, but it is not confirmed if the commercial version will retain the same design or switch to the puck in an effort to keep the weight of the headset down. Naturally, we have more questions than answers, so eventually, future leaks and rumors will provide more information, and by that time, the Apple Vision Pro may also be readily available in several countries.
