Pixel Watch 2 To Get Major Specifications Uplift Over Previous Model; Support For UWB, More Efficient SoC, Bigger Battery In Tow

Pixel Watch 2

The Pixel Watch was an important member of Google’s lineup to provide a baseline for a potential ecosystem of devices, but like most first-generation hardware, it shipped with dated specifications that did not give the smartwatch justice. Thankfully, according to the latest information shared, the Pixel Watch 2 is said to improve significantly in the internal configuration department.

Pixel Watch 2 to ditch Samsung’s Exynos chipset for a 4nm Qualcomm one for improved power-efficiency, increased battery life, and more

The first Pixel Watch featured an Exynos 9110, but thanks to Kamila Wojciechowska, who has published new findings on Android Authority, we have learned that the upcoming version will sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1, which is mass produced on Samsung’s 4nm process, making it more power-efficient, so the smartwatch will last longer. Additionally, the extra performance, thanks to the four Cortex-A53 cores running at 1.70GHz and Adreno 702 GPU, should make for a smoother and more responsive UI.

However, just like the first model, the Pixel Watch 2 features a custom co-processor based on an NXP chip instead of sporting one from Qualcomm. The wearable also supports new low-power states such as Deep Sleep and Hibernation, both of which should increase the device’s overall endurance. Speaking of endurance, the Pixel Watch 2 will reportedly ship with a larger 306mAh battery, making it a minute 4 percent increase over the capacity present in its predecessor.

As for the UWB, or ultra-wideband frequency, the Pixel Watch 2 sports an NXP SR100T chip that will likely support new software features. Similar to Apple’s Find My, the presence of this chip should make it easier to find the smartwatch if owners have forgotten where it was last kept or if it was stolen. However, UWB is a short-range frequency, so its ability to locate the Pixel Watch 2 will depend entirely on where it is currently present.

As for the display, the Pixel Watch 2 is said to retain the same bezels as the first version, though instead of sourcing panels from BOE, Google has opted to choose Samsung’s displays measuring 1.2 inches and touting a 384 x 384 resolution. Also, like the Apple Watch, Google is said to be developing two connectivity variants; one with Wi-Fi, codenamed ‘Aurora,’ while the LTE-enabled version is internally called ‘Eos.’ Overall, the Pixel Watch 2 is said to have three separate models; G4TSL, GC3G8, and GD2WG, and this device may be launched alongside the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro flagships.

Sadly, despite the plethora of information shared, there were no pricing details given, meaning that prior to Google’s launch event, we should learn about those tidbits, then provide a clear verdict if the Pixel Watch 2 is a better buy over its competitors.
