Lenovo Legion Go Handheld To Feature AMD Ryzen Z1 APUs & AR-Powered Gaming Experience1

Lenovo Legion Go will be much more than a simple handheld device and the second console to be powered by AMD's Ryzen Z1 APUs. Windows Report discloses that the highly-anticipated handheld will feature separate AR glasses for an immersive experience.

Lenovo's Legion Go Will Feature Everything One Could Wish For in a Handheld Console Including AMD's Power-Efficient Ryzen Z1 APUs

In our previous coverage, we discussed the potential appearance of the device, but we have obtained much more information now. Starting from the design language, Lenovo has adopted a "hybrid" approach, combining popular elements from its competitors and integrating them into a single package. This statement is backed by the fact that Lenovo Legion Go has detachable joysticks, Steam Deck design language, and onboard specifications similar to ROG Ally.

Before going into specifications and other stuff, let's discuss Lenovo’s AR Glasses. This approach by the company is somewhat questionable since the domain of augmented reality hasn't transitioned into handheld devices, and I believe this is Lenovo's way of standing out. Lenovo aims to provide users with an immersive gaming experience, adopting a similar path to what Apple's recently-announced "Vision Pro" follows.

However, this does have some constraints, with the primary one being power consumption management. Since it is said that the AR Glasses could be connected with a Lenovo Legion Pro USB-C port, this simply means that the company will have to make refinements in the power delivery department, which could put performance at stake. This is merely an assumption, though, as if Lenovo wants it could slap a 75Wh (19,500mAh) battery, similar to AYANEO's KUN, and get the job done.

Coming to the expected features of the Legion Go, it could include an 8-inch screen with much smaller bezels than its counterparts. It also comes with the ordinary buttons configuration with a trackpad (unique to Steam Deck), hence justifying the "hybrid" approach Lenovo has taken with the device. At the back of the device, you will see the usual trigger buttons necessary for an adequate experience; however, the diagram shows a kickstand for placing the device anywhere you want.

Moving on to the decisive factor, which is onboard specifications. Lenovo Legion Go is expected to feature AMD's Ryzen Z1 APUs, which have gained immense traction in the industry, especially after integrating into ASUS's ROG Ally. We hope the company utilizes both the standard and "Extreme" variants of the Z1 APUs to give users extensive options. For more information on Z1 APUs, you can view our detailed coverage here.

While the source hasn't disclosed information about the battery life, we expect it to be top-notch, especially since the company plans to power its AR Glasses through the handheld. As mentioned above, a larger battery could become a necessity here, which is why it is reported that the handheld device will feature an enhanced cooling system.

Lenovo's Legion Go is expected to catch all the limelight once released, mainly due to the company's approach towards the device. Windows Report discloses that we could see a launch at IFA 2023, a consumer electronics show expected to be held in Berlin on September 2023. We aren't aware of the pricing of the model, but based on the above-surfaced specifications, it will surely be at the higher end, similar to what the ROG Ally is priced at. Expect more details to unravel soon.
