Baldur’s Gate 3 Breaks All-Time Top 10 for Steam CCU, Gets Hotfix #1 and Level 20 Unlock Mod

Baldur's Gate 3

As expected, Baldur's Gate 3 continues to rise. On the third day since launch, it set its third concurrent player peak record, replacing Respawn's popular free-to-play Battle Royale game Apex Legends in Steam's all-time Top 10 concurrent player peak with 646K users registered by SteamDB.

At this point, it's not at all far off from the ninth spot, which is currently occupied by Gaggle Studios' indie game Goose Goose Duck with 702K concurrent players). The eighth spot, occupied by Avalanche Software's megahit Hogwarts Legacy, currently seems a bit too far with its 879K all-time peak.

While the developers are certainly quite elated with these player figures, they're also continuing to fix and improve the game. A few hours ago, they deployed the first Baldur's Gate 3 hotfix, which fixes a ton of bugs and also temporarily disables cross-saves. This feature is currently unused anyway, as it will only come in handy when the PlayStation 5 version debuts on September 6th, and it was causing a few issues.

Here's a list of the main crash fixes, in case you were unfortunate enough to be caught in one of these:

  • Fixed possibly getting stuck in a dialogue in the first confrontation with a major boss.
  • Fixed a rare issue where player character states would not update properly after dying.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur related to one of Astarion's cinematic dialogues in the endgame.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when loading an old Baldur's Gate 3 save game while at Last Light.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when using the brain reader in the Colony.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause you to get stuck in a loading screen when loading a savegame after dying.
  • Fixed a blocker during Character Creation preventing you from progressing if you chose a Zariel Tiefling as your Guardian.
  • Fixed a potential crash triggered by the light system.
  • Fixed a startup crash with the Steam API.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when quick-loading a game while a container or corpse was open for looting.
  • Fixed a crash that could happen if an item unlocked a spell for a game entity without stats.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when switching a race or a class in Character Creation.
  • Fixed potential crashes that could occur when closing screens like the options menu or when ending dialogues.
  • Fixed a potential crash when an enemy tries to use the Motivator during combat in the Steel Watch Foundry.
  • Fixed a blocker that could occur if you choose to attack the Emperor during a dialogue after you side with him.
  • Fixed a crash in PhysX.

In the meantime, following the release of the Party Size increase mod (which has now received an update to not only be compatible with the hotfix but also allow for up to 16-player groups), there's another noteworthy mod up on Nexus. This one unlocks the default level cap of Baldur's Gate 3, which is 12, to potentially allow players to get to D&D's traditional level cap of 20. There is one caveat in that you won't be able to exceed level 12 with any individual class. Still, you can do it by way of multiclassing as shown in the featured image, where level 20 was attained with a level 12 Fighter/level 8 Barbarian combo. It's not a big limitation anyway, given that Larian has removed the attribute requirements for multiclassing in Baldur's Gate 3, so any characters can multiclass into anything they want.

The mod offers three variants. The first one merely unlocks the level cap but doesn't provide any XP boost, meaning that you may get a level or two higher than 12 if you really do everything. The second variant halves the required XP for level up, therefore enabling players to potentially reach level 20 if they squeeze every experience point out of Baldur's Gate 3. The last variant essentially lets you max out levels with only 200 XP and is meant to be used for testing only rather than serious gameplay.

To install the Level 20 (Multiclass) mod, just download the file via Nexus Mods and extract it into the folder Baldur's Gate 3/Data. Let us know in the comments how you get on with the mod and with the game as a whole.
