2023 is shaping up to be the year of foldable phones as we are seeing a lot of great offerings from different companies, with Samsung bringing its offerings on July 26th, the Pixel Fold already making waves in the market, and a lot of releases from other companies. However, we are still waiting for OnePlus to come up with their foldable, and while we know it is coming out this year and we have seen the renders, too, the name has been a bit of a mystery until now.
OnePlus Open is possibly the name of the upcoming foldable from OnePlus
Apparently, OnePlus has decided to call their foldable OnePlus Open, it is a bit unusual as far as the name is concerned because previous rumors suggested that it would either be OnePlus Fold or OnePlus V Fold, but the company apparently has decided to go for an unusual name.
The tip is coming from Max Jambor, who's proven to be spot on in the past with OnePlus-related leaks, and he has some evidence to support the claim as well. Apparently, the company patented some of the names sometime in the past, and OnePlus Open happens to be one of them.

I think this name is not something that OnePlus would end up using because if there are going to be sequels of this foldable phone, then it will be on the difficult side actually to have a proper naming scheme. I mean, think of OnePlus Open 2 and OnePlus Open 3. It does not make that much sense.
At the moment, nothing is confirmed so we could see this whole narrative change, and OnePlus could go with a more simplified naming scheme than other companies have been doing. But if that does not happen, then Open is what the next foldable phone is going to be called, and honestly, I am not sure how I feel about it.
Regarding the release date, the OnePlus Open is scheduled for the second half of 2023, so we should be seeing more information on the phone in the coming months and weeks. I do feel like the phone is going to make some waves in the market. I don't know if it will manage to make a name for itself. But whatever the case might be, we will keep you posted about the latest and greatest from OnePlus.
