Nothing Phone (2) Beats The iPhone 14 Plus In Latest Speed, Despite Being At A Major Disadvantage With An Inferior Chipset

Nothing Phone (2) vs iPhone 14 Plus

The Nothing Phone (2) recently went on sale, and while some consumers were looking forward to picking this model, they would be disappointed that it did not get treated with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but these compromises were made to bring the price down. However, even with the previous-generation Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, this latest entrant in the smartphone space not only holds its own against the iPhone 14 Plus but manages to beat it in the latest speed test.

Minimalistic UI and increased memory gave the Nothing Phone (2) the edge it needed to beat the iPhone 14 Plus

The Nothing Phone (2) that PhoneBuff got its hands on features 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, whereas the base model ships with 8GB of memory, so these specifications will play a pivotal role in keeping the apps running in the background. Also, keep in mind that while the iPhone 14 Plus is about to be a year old, it is still categorized as a premium device thanks to its $899 price tag for the base storage model, while this version of the Nothing Phone (2) will set you back by $699.

Coming to the test, on YouTube, PhoneBuff shows that the Nothing Phone (2) is slightly faster than the iPhone 14 Plus in productivity apps such as Microsoft Word, as is editing and exporting an image in Snapseed. When exporting a video, iPhones have historically made a comeback, but not on this occasion, as the Phone (2) just breezes past its competitor with ease.

Apple’s iPhones also manage to make up for the lost time when opening up gaming apps, but even with this advantage, the iPhone 14 Plus loses in the first stage of the test, with the Nothing Phone (2) obtaining a score of two minutes and one second (2:01.78), with the iPhone 14 Plus coming in four seconds later at two minutes and five seconds (2:05.36). Now comes the second part of the speed test, where both handsets’ apps are individually opened to see which ones were running seamlessly in the background.

In the past, thanks to the optimizations that iOS brings to the table, iPhones have nearly always beaten their Android flagship rivals. This means that even with fewer amounts of RAM, iPhones are able to open up apps immediately. Sadly, things take a turn for the worst, as the iPhone 14 Plus is unable to keep Microsoft Excel running in the background while the Nothing Phone (2) does not suffer from the same setback.

As a result, the Phone (2) wins the best with a time of two minutes and 50 seconds (2:50.85), with the iPhone 14 Plus finishing with a time of two minutes and 56 seconds (2:56.92). A gap of six seconds is plentiful, which makes us wonder how the iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max would perform against the Nothing Phone (2). Keep in mind that both ‘Pro’ models feature the same 6GB RAM as the less pricey versions, so it will be interesting to see if PhoneBuff performs a new speed test with the aforementioned devices.
