Galaxy S24 Ultra To Retain The Same Optical Zoom Camera As The Galaxy S23 Ultra, No Upgrades Expected

From a camera specifications perspective, it appears that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will just be an iterative update over the Galaxy S23 Ultra, as it has been rumored that Samsung intends to use the same 200MP ISOCELL HP2 sensor for next year’s flagship. However, one tipster also notes that in 2024, the Korean giant is not expected to introduce any optical zoom upgrades to its top-tier offering.

Galaxy S24 Ultra to miss out on a 5x optical zoom upgrade will retain the same capability as the Galaxy S23 Ultra

Despite the fact that Ice Universe deleted the tweet that had the relevant information, Sammobile got a hold of the rumor that claims that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will miss out on a 5x optical zoom upgrade. This means that next year’s flagship will retain the 3x optical zoom on the 10MP camera, though it is not confirmed if Samsung the re-use the same sensor here. Now, keep in mind that just because the Korean manufacturer is keeping the same optical zoom on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, it does not mean that this model will be inferior in other areas.

For instance, there are reports that the premium smartphone will ship with 10x optical zoom on the other camera, which may also sport the 10MP resolution as the Galaxy S23 Ultra. It would have been in Samsung’s favor to slightly increase the maximum zoom levels on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, as later this year, it will eventually compete with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which is said to be Apple’s first-ever iPhone with lossless zoom functionality. Even with this upgrade, the iPhone 15 Pro Max may only extend its zoom level to 6x, giving the Galaxy S24 Ultra an edge, at least on paper.

Other hardware upgrades of the Galaxy S24 Ultra may warrant an upgrade, such as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset or that the flagship will ship with stacked battery technology that may increase overall capacity by 10 percent. Still, Apple continues to receive praise for incorporating the best cameras on its iPhones, so perhaps Samsung should attempt to catch up to its rival in this category. Regardless, we will still see how the Galaxy S24 Ultra performs in the optics test once it officially arrives in early 2024.
