You Can Still Unlock Your iPhone in iOS 17 Even After You Forget Your Passcode But You Have to be Quick

iOS 17 Password Reset Feature if you forget it

Before iOS 17's announcement at WWDC 2023, it was coined that the platform will incorporate minor upgrades in terms of visual changes and front-facing features. However, the operating system came with a plethora of nifty additions along with various under-the-hood additions. It is now discovered that you will have the option to reset your passcode even if you forget it in iOS 17.

iOS 17 introduced a new passcode recovery option on iOS 17, allowing you to set a new passcode within 72 hours after changing to a new one

Currently, if you set a specific passcode, you are only authorized to unlock the device if you enter it correctly. What this means is that if you forget your passcode for whatever reason, the iPhone will remain locked. This makes the iPhone almost useless. iOS 17 will give you the option to reset your passcode even if you forget it. However, there is a small catch that you must remember if you want to save your iPhone from being locked forever.

The new passcode recovery feature in iOS 17 will give you 72 hours to reset the passcode if you can not remember the current passcode. Once you enter the wrong passcode, your iPhone running iOS 17 will give you the "Forget Passcode?" option on the bottom. Once you tap on the option, you will be redirected to another page with an option to "Try Passcode Reset." You will have to enter your old passcode and then be allowed to create a new one.

If you think the option will allow strangers to gain access to your iPhone, there is an option in iOS 17 Settings that will make the previous passcode redundant immediately. This is a pretty nifty feature in case you forget your new passcode and remember an older one. We have all been in a similar situation where we forget the latest passcode and remember the older one.

Apple also incorporated a plethora of features highlighting the privacy and security of users. However, the company is yet to introduce an option that will restrict thieves and strangers to gain access to your iPhone after snooping on your passcode in public and then stealing it later. iOS 17 is currently in its initial beta phase and the company will introduce various features with the subsequent beta builds.

As for the final release, iOS 17 will be available to the public later this year in September alongside the launch of the iPhone 15 lineup. If you want to check out the iOS 17 for yourself, check out our detailed tutorial on how to download and install it on your iPhone.
