Galaxy S23 Galaxy S22 and Other Samsung Phones No Longer Have the Option to Disable Emergency SOS Feature

Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra

After delaying the update a bit, Samsung has finally started pushing the big June update to all the phones that were waiting for it. The one thing that people didn't notice is that the company changed the settings for Emergency SOS, and the new change completely removes the feature that would let you disable the feature. I have tested it out on my Galaxy S22, and there is no way to disable it, and the same can be said for other phones that have received the update.

The Emergency SOS feature can no longer be turned off on Galaxy S23, Galaxy S22, and other Samsung phones despite Google informing the manufacturers about the silent call issue

In addition to the option to turn the setting off, Emergency SOS can now be turned on by pressing the power key repeatedly five times instead of three times in the previous updates. This is done so the latest feature is more in line with how it works on vanilla Android. Now, if you access your Emergency SOS page on the Galaxy S22 or other phones that have received the latest update, you will see you no longer have the option to disable it.

This is how the new Emergency SOS menu looks on the Galaxy S22 Ultra after the recent update. You can see how the option to disable Emergency SOS is gone now.

Now, this is slightly concerning from the perspective that only yesterday, we heard about how police forces in the UK and other regions have started warning about the silent calls that are placed through the Emergency SOS feature. Google did mention that it has informed the manufacturers about sorting this out, but it seems like Samsung has not made any changes, and even then, the company has made it worse, considering how you cannot turn off the feature at all and Galaxy S22 or Galaxy S23 users can end up placing calls that they didn't want to place. Thankfully, there is a countdown, so you can still come back and check, but other than that, the feature is here to stay, and we are not sure if it will remain disabled in a future update.
