AMD Ryzen CPUs See Up To 27% Performance Boost In Cyberpunk 2077 With Unofficial SMT Fix
Users have found an unofficial fix for poor utilization & the resultant poor performance of AMD Ryzen CPUs within Cyberpunk 2077.
Unofficial Cyberpunk 2077 Patch For AMD Ryzen CPU SMT Delivers Up To 27% Performance Boost Despite Devs Stating That The Issue Has Been Addressed
Since the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, AMD CPU owners have noticed that their chips remain under-utilized, most notably in regards to SMT. This issue was found right after the game's release & while CDProjektRed has said that the issue has been addressed within the HotFix 1.05 patch, that doesn't seem to be the case at all as discovered in tests run by PCGamesHardware.
Editors from @PCGH_Redaktion trying to prove (again and again) that Ryzen CPUs with 8 cores run faster with an SMT fix/hack, thus using all 16 threads. https://t.co/jWkvxOgH90@CDPROJEKTRED is not willing to provide an official fix. One can only speculate whether this is…

The Cyberpunk 2077 HotFix 1.05 patch mainly addressed the SMT/Thread utilization on AMD Ryzen CPUs, mainly the 4-core and 6-core SKUs. According to the devs, the 8-core, 12 core & 16 core chips were running as intended however a simple benchmark run outside of the built-in test reveals that AMD Ryzen CPUs still face under-utilization of their cores/threads which can lead to drastically poor performance.
The solution to this comes in the form of a simple HEX edit which you can download and use for yourself by following the simple guide provided by the tech outlet below:
- Use Cyberpunk 2077 unmodified in the current version
- Use CapFrameX as a benchmark program
- Use a Ryzen processor with more than six cores (Intel CPUs are not affected by the problem)
- Follow our template, see the video for details
- Use our benchmark score (download below)
- Be able to run the benchmark in the CPU limit (strong graphics card required)
- Download Link
If the download is flagged by your anti-virus, then you can just edit the Cyberpunk 2077 executable manually by replacing the hex value "75 2D 33 C9 B8 01 00 00 00 0F A2 8B C8 C1 F9 08" with "EB 2D 33 C9 B8 01 00 00 00 0F A2 8B C8 C1 F9 08" and save it. Duplicating the older executable and using it with the original hex code would allow you to run the game with and without the AMD Ryzen SMT Fix.
PCGameshardware did just that and the results showed improvements of up to 27% with the new unofficial patch applied. Using the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU, an 8 Core 3D V-Cache chip, the CPU saw an average FPS gain from 108.3 FPS to 137.9 FPS. This shows that there is still a major problem with the game and its optimization around 8-core AMD Ryzen CPUs which has yet to be addressed by the developers.
Cyberpunk 2077 is a technical marvel which continues to be a testing ground of sorts for advantage graphics capabilities such as the recently introduced Path Tracing tech in RT-Overdrive mode. It will also be nice for the devs to pay attention to these much-needed issues that are faced by a vast majority of gamers on the PC platform.
