AMD Ryzen 7000 Goes Pro For Desktops & Laptops: Phoenix & Raphael With Zen 4 CPU Cores

AMD has announced the launch of its Ryzen 7000 Pro CPUs which brings Zen 4 to commercial desktops and laptops.

AMD is expanding its commercial portfolio today with the first-ever Zen 4-powered CPUs for laptops and desktops. The company already has Pro chips powering the high-end platforms including Threadripper Pro and EPYC Embedded families but the Ryzen 7000 Pro chips target a broader audience.

For today's launch, AMD is introducing its Pro families in two flavors, the Ryzen Pro 7040 "Phoenix"  for laptops and the Ryzen 7000 Pro "Raphael" for desktops. The specifications of both lineups will be largely similar to their non-Pro variants with the Ryzen Pro 7040 series maxing out at 8 cores & the Ryzen Pro 7000 Desktop CPUs maxing out at 12 cores although the standard Ryzen 7000 parts can go all the way up to 16 cores & 32 threads. AMD made similar SKUs under the Ryzen Pro 5000 which also peaked out at 12 Zen 3 cores with the Ryzen 9 Pro 5945 CPU.

AMD Ryzen Pro 7000 "Raphael" Desktop CPU Family

Starting with the desktop family, we have three SKUs. The AMD Ryzen 9 Pro 7945 is the flagship with 12 cores, 24 threads, up to 5.4 GHz clocks, 64 MB of L3 cache, and a 65W TDP. Next up is the Ryzen 7 Pro 7745 which features 8 cores, 16 threads, up to 5.3 GHz clocks, 32 MB of L3 cache, and also a 65W TDP.

Lastly, we have the Ryzen 5 Pro 7645 which features 6 cores, 12 threads, up to 5.1 GHz clocks, 32 MB of L3 cache, and a 65W TDP. All CPUs are configured with the Radeon 710M iGPU which offers 2 Compute Units running at 2200 MHz. The CPUs are compatible with existing 600-series boards and support all AMD Pro Technologies such as enterprise-grade manageability and security features. It also comes with AMD Memory Guard, Secured-core PC, and chip-to-cloud security technology enabled by Microsoft Pluton.

AMD Ryzen Pro 7040 "Phoenix" Laptop CPU Family

On the laptop front, we have a total of six Ryzen Pro 7040 "Phoenix" APUs. These chips include 3 HS parts rated at 45W TDPs and three U-series parts rated at 28W TDP. Their specifications are exactly the same as the Non-Pro parts and the only additional thing is that they support all the necessary AMD Pro technologies. The chips include the Ryzen 9 Pro 7940HS, Ryzen 7 Pro 7840HS, Ryzen 7 Pro 7840U, Ryzen 5 Pro 7540U, Ryzen 5 Pro 7645HS, and the Ryzen 5 Pro 7640U.

Some select AMD Ryzen Pro 7040 CPUs (every SKU except the Ryzen 5 Pro 7540U) will offer support for the Ryzen AI engine, allowing AI-based inferencing and support for AVX-512.

As far as launch is concerned, AMD states that the first platforms based on the new Ryzen Pro 7000 Desktop and Laptop CPUs will be available this month from top PC vendors such as HP and Lenovo. Expect more information from OEMs on the pricing and various configurations based on these new Pro Zen 4 CPUs.
