Possible Intel Meteor Lake Laptop CPUs Spotted In 16 & 14 Core Variants
Intel's Meteor Lake CPUs for laptops are expected to launch in the second half of this year and will be targeted at high-performance and low-power devices. It looks like laptop manufacturers already have access to these chips and are currently testing their upcoming designs.
Intel's Next-Gen Meteor Lake Laptop CPUs Are Currently Being Tested, 16 & 14 Core Flavors Spotted
Update: According to @OneRaichu, it looks like the core/thread count is indeed misreported by the SiSoftware benchmark database. The leaker seems to believe that the 16-core variant is based on a 6 P-Core + 8 E-Core + 2 E-Core layout while the 14-core variant is based on a 4 P-Core + 8 E-Core + 2 E-Core layout. The additional 2 cores are part of the SOC tile.
- Intel MTL-P 16-Core SKU: 8 P-Cores (Redwood Cove) + 2 E-Cores (Crestmont) + 2 E-Cores (SOC)
- Intel MTL-P 14-Core SKU: 6 P-Cores (Redwood Cove) + 2 E-Cores (Crestmont) + 2 E-Cores (SOC)
Although the answer is in the pic, they cannot confirm it.
The threads number is wrong, and the CUs number is the real threads counter.
So, it is 6P+8E+2e and 4P+8E+2e. https://t.co/qG72aX1HQq— Raichu (@OneRaichu) May 20, 2023
Two undisclosed and unknown Intel CPUs have been leaked within the SiSoftware Sandra database which points out to Meteor Lake designs. These chips were leaked within OEM designs from HP & Dell. Based on the specifications, it looks very likely that these could be early Meteor Lake ES chips.
First up, we have a 16-core and 32-thread part which features a base clock of 3.07 GHz, a boost of up to 4.2 GHz, 18 MB of L2 cache, & 24 MB of L3 cache. It is likely that these values are not correct but the easiest way to tell that this is a Meteor Lake chip is the fact that it houses 128 EUs which is only possible on Meteor Lake chips since Raptor Lake and Alder Lake Xe GPUs max out at 96 EUs & they also don't operate at clock speeds of over 2 GHz (2100 MHz in this case).
There also definitely hasn't been a single 16-core chip on the standard P-series lineup so if this is a Meteor Lake-HX part, it may offer 8 P-Cores and 12 E-Cores though that sounds very unlikely & we advise waiting for more information before making final conclusions. With that said, Intel is already working on its next-gen enthusiast-grade Arrow Lake-HX lineup.
What's more interesting is that the chip is listed under the "Desktop" platform by SiSoftware. That might be due to the RVP (Reference Validation Platform) being close to a desktop than a laptop. We cannot confirm for sure but the desktop part seems unlikely due to the 128 EU GPU or is Intel going to put that level of an iGPU within its mainstream desktop processors?
The second part is without a doubt a laptop SKU since it's featured on the next-gen Dell Inspiron 13 5330 design. The Intel CPU featured within this laptop offers 14 cores, 28 threads, up to 3.26 GHz ES clock speeds, 14 MB of L2 cache, & 16 MB of L3 cache. Once again, these values can be incorrect so don't put much thought into them.
The Intel Meteor Lake CPUs will be featuring a new and refreshed branding scheme when they launch in the second half of this year. Intel is expected to drop the "Core" branding in favor of a new "Ultra" branding. The company also confirmed that Meteor Lake CPUs will be its 14th Gen family though they never confirmed if it is specific to the desktop or laptop parts. The company plans to reveal more details at its upcoming Vision event which is planned for later this month.
