Pixel Tablet Specs Leak Reveal Impressive Battery Life, But Slower Storage Speeds & A High Price May Discourage Buyers

Google Pixel Tablet

Google has once again failed to protect sensitive hardware information of its future product, and on this occasion, it is the Pixel Tablet. A massive specifications leak through a ‘now removed’ listing on Amazon shows that the slate will impress in some areas, such as battery life, but disappoint in others, so let us take a look in more detail.

The Pixel Tablet could impress with its quad-speaker setup too, but camera details are lackluster

Starting with the display, the listing on Amazon Japan mentioned that the Pixel Tablet will sport a 10.95-inch IPS LCD panel with a 2560 x 1600 resolution and 500 nits of brightness. Unfortunately, if you prefer smoother scrolling or navigation through a high refresh rate, that will not happen, as Google is not using such a display for this model. However, the slate will have USI 2.0 stylus support and three microphones paired with a quad-speaker setup.

Connectivity options include a USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and UWB. Sadly, the camera hardware will just be average, with the listing showing the Pixel Tablet sporting a single 8MP front and rear sensor that can only record 1080p footage at 30FPS. Another disappointing aspect of the tablet, apart from the Tensor G2 SoC, is the previous-generation UFS 3.1 storage. The Pixel Tablet is listed to arrive in the 128GB, and 256GB storage variants and both versions will have slower read and write speeds.

Modern-day flagships ship with UFS 4.0 storage, so if Google hopes to compete with the competition, the company should avoid this kind of cost-cutting. As for the memory, the Pixel Tablet will have 8GB LPDDR5 RAM, but 12GB would have been the sweet spot. However, the battery life should be impressive, assuming the specifications are correct, with the listing talking about a 12-hour runtime thanks to a 27WHr battery underneath the hood.

As for the pricing, Amazon Japan had the listing available for ¥79,800, or $591, which may discourage buyers as oftentimes, that is how much Apple’s M1 iPad Pro can cost on a lucky day. It is also rumored that Google will offer a docking accessory with the Pixel Tablet for absolutely no charge, but we will confirm this information during the official launch. While we are glad another company has finally entered the tablet market, we have mixed feelings about these paper specifications. Let us hope that the actual experience will be different.
