While Global Smartphone Market Share Plummeted, Apple Continues to Grow

Apple and Samsung Market Share

Apple and Android smartphone manufacturers have always been in dire competition to secure the most market share. However, compared to the previous year, only Apple has managed to grow while Samsung, Xiaomi, and other Android smartphones have plummeted. According to the latest market data, this marks the fifth quarter whereas Samsung and other Android manufacturers have seen a decline in smartphone market share. Scroll down to read more details on how much Apple has grown over the previous year.

Apple is the only company with a growing market share, while major Android manufacturers saw a decline

According to a report published by Canalys, Apple has managed to keep itself relevant in the smartphone industry by offering the latest features and hardware improvements. This allowed the company to gain a 3 percent market share while Android manufacturers like Samsung saw an 18 percent decline. Take note that the numbers also take into account the iPhone 14's lower-than-expected sales. Since the device did not bring anything major to the table, it is surprising to see how the company's market share grew.

While Apple did grow its market share, Samsung still has the leading market share with 22 percent. Apple, on the other hand, took the second spot with a 21 percent market share. With Apple's growth and Samsung's decline, the market share gap between the two competitors has narrowed. If the trend continues, it is only a matter of time before Apple surpasses Samsung in terms of market share.

Canalys also reports that global smartphone shipments fell by 13 percent to 269.8 million units in the first quarter of this year. Global smartphone shipments have declined in the fifth quarter as well, and analysts are not sure when it will begin reverting. Potentially, the global recession has a lot to do with it with consumer buying power decreasing with increasing inflation.

Apple and Samsung Market Share

All in all, Apple saw an increase of 3 percent of the total market share, making it the only company to grow. Samsung saw an 18 percent decline while Xiaomi plummeted by 22 percent. Oppo's market share decreased by 8 percent and Vivo's by 17 percent. In total, Samsung secured its spot with 60.3 million shipments while Apple followed close at 58 million shipments. The trend could potentially stretch to the next quarter as well.

Meanwhile, Apple will announce the iPhone 15 series later this year which is expected to contribute to Apple's market share as well. This is all there is to it, folks.
