Galaxy Z Fold 5 will Weigh 13 Grams Lighter Than the Galaxy Z Fold 4, While Being Thinner and More Durable
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 will finally be official later this year alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Rumor has it that we might see another foldable appearing, but so far, we highly suggest that you take that with a pinch of salt. All eyes are on Samsung's latest foldable and for obvious reasons. The Fold series has been making waves in terms of innovation and the fact that the South Korean tech giant wants to ensure that these phones are finally mainstream is something that we cannot overlook.
Latest information tells that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is not only lighter but also thinner than its predecessor but sadly won't have an S Pen slot
Samsung has been making year-on-year improvements with the Galaxy Z Fold series, and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is not going to be any different, either. Based on the latest information we have, the latest foldable is going to weigh 250 grams, which is going to be 13 grams lighter than its predecessor. The phone will also be thinner when folded at just 13.4mm, which is less than 14.2mm of the predecessor.
The source further claims that Samsung is currently testing samples of the Galaxy Z Fold 5, the current sample stands at 254 grams, but the company is trying ot bring it down to the target weight.
In order to reduce the weight and thickness of the phone, Samsung has gone with a waterdrop hinge this time around. This hinge is designed in such a way that it lets the display roll inside the main body and form a waterdrop shape. Using this hinge allows the phone to fold completely flat, ensuring that no dust or foreign particles are making their way inside the phone. This hinge is also said to be more durable than the normal hinges we have seen. Sadly, due to choice of hinge and the decision to go with a thinner profile, Samsung will not be able to fit an S Pen slot in the phone, however, an external S Pen will be supported.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is shaping up to be an impressive device overall, and so far it looks like Samsung has made some significant improvements under the hood. I honestly do not have a problem if the phone ends up looking like its predecessor as long as it is more durable and offers better overall experience. Recently leaked benchmarks even showed the phone performing better than the Galaxy S23 Ultra despite running on the same chipset. Needless to say, it does look promising.
