Scribes of Fate Elder Scrolls Online DLC Now Available on PC/Mac
Today, ZeniMax Online Studios and Bethesda Softworks have launched the Scribes of Fate DLC for Elder Scrolls Online on PC and Mac (PlayStation and Xbox consoles will be getting it on March 28th).
Scribes of Fate marks the beginning of the Shadow Over Morrowind adventure that will be the overarching narrative of this year in Elder Scrolls Online, continuing with the Necrom Chapter due to be released in June. You can read more about that in our previous interview with Game Director Rich Lambert.
This DLC adds two PvE dungeons to the game. Bal Sunnar is set in the eponymous Telvanni town, located in the eastern portion of the Stonefalls region. This otherwise unremarkable mountain settlement suddenly becomes important to the Psijic Order after the ancient order of mages detects a time anomaly within its premises. As such, the High Elf agent Saresea is dispatched to Bal Sunnar and seeks the party's help to uncover the mystery behind the anomaly. Within this dungeon, players will encounter Dark Elf mages from House Telvanni, various beasts native to Morrowind that have been empowered by time magic, and even Daedric cultists who worship Peryite.
The other PvE dungeon is Scrivener's Hall. Here, players are tasked with helping the former leader of the Scribes of Mora, the Khajit Keshargo, regain control of what was once a peaceful faction merely dedicated to the mapping of Daedric planes before Valinna transformed many of the Scribes into dangerous zealots. Players must move through various Daedric planes, including the Deadlands and even Mephala's Realm, the Spiral Skein. There will also be plenty of chances to check out NPCs doing skills available to the Arcanist class once it is released with the Necrom Chapter.
You can take a look below at a full run of Scrivener's Hall we did with a party of developers from ZeniMax Online Studios. The difficulty was set to Normal, so don't be surprised if it doesn't look very challenging.
As with all PvE dungeons in Elder Scrolls Online, those included in Scribes of Fate can be completed in Veteran difficulties, and all of the six bosses can be tuned up even further with the Hard difficulty. New rewards introduced in this DLC include six new item sets, two monster sets, as well as smaller things like skins, achievements, dyes, emotes, and mementos.
Like all dungeon DLCs in Elder Scrolls Online, Scribes of Fate can be purchased via the Crown Store for 1,500 crowns. However, all players will receive access to the free Update 37, which includes three new sets available through the Rewards of the Worthy, new furnishings, Quality of Life improvements for the Housing feature, a new accessibility option called Screen Narration, and a ton of bug fixes and balance changes mostly geared towards tweaking the Light Attacks. Those had received a huge nerf in Update 35, and this new update aims to bring Light Attacks more in line with where they were supposed to be.
Last but not least, the PC and Mac clients have been updated with the optional Software Occlusion Culling feature, currently in Beta. When activated, this will prevent the game from performing calculations of objects that would be completely hidden by other objects anyway, thus potentially providing a performance boost, albeit at the cost of increased memory usage. Since it is an experimental feature, it can only be enabled by advanced users; should you wish to try it, just add this command to the UserSettings.txt file (found in \Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live): SET SoftwareOcclusionCullingEnabled "1".
