Today, getting your hands on an original iPhone in its sealed condition is rare, and the ones we do find sell at auction for thousands of dollars. According to the latest, the iPhone from 2007 fetched a whopping $54,904 at an auction that comes in sealed packaging.

The original iPhone was unveiled on stage by the late Apple CEO Steve Jobs and the iconic moment is preserved in videos you can see on YouTube. Apart from the price, the device featured a completely touch-based input system, opening the doors for the competition to follow. The original iPhone was auctioned by RR Auction by an ex-Apple employee who got his hands on the device when it launched almost 15 years ago.

In terms of the condition, the device has never seen daylight out of the box and remains in its original condition. On the packaging, you will see the image of a life-size iPhone with 12 icons on the display. The number of icons indicates that it is part of the initial production batch in 2007. This is because the company added the thirteenth icon later on that highlights the launch of iTunes.

The ex-Apple employee saved the iPhone in its original packaging after Apple gave him another at work. Henceforth, there was no reason for him to open the sealed packaging of this unit. However, it is surprising to see the device made it through several years with the seal intact. This is not the first time that we are hearing details on an original iPhone selling at auction. It was reported last month that an original iPhone fetched a record-breaking 63,000 at an auction. The iPhone was given to the owner as a gift from her friends which was unopened.
