Apple M3 Being Prepared For Upcoming 13-Inch And 15-Inch MacBook Air Models; CPU Core Count Also Revealed

Two new MacBook Air models are apparently being prepared by Apple, and luckily for all of those looking to upgrade, they will feature the company’s newest M3 chipset. This custom silicon is said to be mass produced on TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm process and is expected to bring a wide range of improvements to the table.

New MacBook Pro is also in the works that will feature the new and improved M3

The codenames of the individual MacBook Air models and refreshed MacBook Pro have been provided by 9to5Mac, based on the information the publication learned from various sources. Both the new 13-inch and 15-inch versions, with codenames J513 and J515, respectively, will feature the new M3 SoC. Apple was previously reported to have secured TSMC’s 3nm supply, and apart from this, the A17 Bionic will probably be mass produced on the same manufacturing process. In terms of adequate shipment, we believe Apple will be well ahead in this regard.

This next-generation technology is said to bring incredible power efficiency results, so while it is possible for Apple to focus more on battery life, the company can also switch towards increased performance if it desires. Aside from the two MacBook Air models, Apple also has plans to introduce a MacBook Pro refresh with a 13-inch panel. This version is said to feature the codename J504, and just like its predecessor, we believe that it will retain the Touch Bar and older design, which is not a bad decision.

This product will serve those customers who do not care about physical appearances and only wish to experience those chip improvements, along with the ability to interact with the Touch Bar. As for the M3, it is said to feature the same 8-core CPU as the M1 and M2, though the number of GPU cores was not highlighted in the report. Given that the M2 can be topped up with a 10-core GPU, we would expect Apple to offer up to a 12-core GPU for the highest configuration.

TSMC announced the mass production of its 3nm process back in December 2022, so the launch of the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air may happen earlier than expected.
