AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX “Dragon Range” 12-Core Laptop CPU Benchmarked, Faster Than Intel 12900K
AMD's Ryzen 9 7845HX "Dragon Range" CPU with 12 Zen 4 cores has been tested in the Geekbench benchmark and shows some incredible performance for a laptop chip running at a 55W TDP range.
AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX 12-Core Dragon Range CPU Sits Ahead of The Intel Core i9-12900K At A 55W TDP Range
The AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX CPU is a high-end Dragon Range SKU that features the Zen 4 architecture and brings a high-core count and bigger cache to the mobile platform. The chips aim the enthusiast segment and as such, the TDPs range from 45W and beyond 75W. Now this chip has been tested in the Geekbench benchmark. Now we have seen detailed performance tests of the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX and Ryzen 7 7745HX CPUs so it's time we get to see what the 12-core chip can manage vs other chips.
The AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX Dragon Range CPU was tested within the MECHREVO Jiaolong Series MRID6-23 laptop which is an Asian laptop manufacturer. The laptop comes with 32 GB of DDR5-4800 memory and should also house a nice NVIDIA RTX 40 series discrete GPU though the exact model has not been mentioned.
So in terms of performance, the AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX Dragon Range CPU scored 2697 points in the single-core and 15039 points in the multi-core tests within Geekbench 6. If we look compare these performance numbers to the Intel Core i9-12900K, we would see that the Dragon Range chip is on par in multi-threaded performance and 6% faster in single-threaded performance with clocks of up to 5.2 GHz. What's more impressive is the fact that the Core i9-12900K can consume up to 250W of power whereas the Dragon Range chip consumes around 50-60W of power when running similar multi-threaded tests.

The CPU also surpasses the Intel Core i7-13700HX which scores around 2450 points in single-core and 14200 points in multi-threaded tests in the same benchmark while featuring 16 cores. The only thing left to see is whether AMD can offer their Dragon Range lineup including the Ryzen 9 7845HX in decent quantities.
In the last couple of generations, AMD has had supply issues in the laptop CPU segment which allowed Intel to claw away market share. AMD does have great products but they should really work hard to fix supply constraints in the notebook segment as the demand for their laptop chips is going to be overwhelming considering the performance efficiency and value their chips offer.
