A17 Bionic Prototype’s Performance Numbers Leak Out, With Apple’s First 3nm Chip Seemingly 43 Percent Faster Than A16 Bionic In Multi-Core Test

The first performance figures of the A17 Bionic prototype are here, and though we reported earlier that Apple would focus more on battery life than raw performance, these numbers have definitely shocked us. In single-core performance, A17 Bionic thrashes its predecessor, with a whopping 59 percent lead

The single-core and multi-core scores were shared by Max Tech on YouTube, claiming that these were shared by someone called Sugunan on Twitter. According to the YouTuber, the scores appear to be legit and represent Apple’s best efforts to create the most powerful SoC ever to be found on a mobile device. Unfortunately, customers will have to fork over more money because, according to our previous report, the commercial version of the A17 Bionic will only be found in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

As for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, these will be outfitted with the A16 Bionic. Now, coming to the scores, the prototype version of the A17 Bionic obtains a single-core and multi-core score of 3,986 and 8,841. These figures show that the iPhone 15 Pro or the iPhone 15 Pro Max will deliver as much performance as a MacBook, which is unreal. Compared to the A16 Bionic, the prototype version of the A17 Bionic is 43 percent faster, and in the single-core test, the upcoming chipset is 59 percent faster.

What we are well-informed about is that the A17 Bionic will likely feature a 6-core CPU, where two of them are performance cores, while four of them will be focused on power efficiency. Unfortunately, we are unaware of the GPU core count, but we feel that it could feature five of them to once more deliver unrivaled performance compared to the competition. Hopefully, in the future, we will get to know more about the battery life of this A17 Bionic SoC.

What we really want to see is Apple incorporate larger batteries on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, so that runtime goes through the roof.
