Motorola Rizr Rollable Concept Phone

Samsung is well ahead of the competition as far as foldable technology is concerned. The company released the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip series with various upgrades over the years. Samsung has managed to minimize the risks associated with foldable technology through trial and error. However, every now and then, we see a concept phone that can fold in an unusual fashion. The latest comes from Motorola, unveiling a rollable concept called Rizr.

Motorola Rizr rollable concept is a small phone that grows on you

Showcased at the ongoing MWC 2023, the Motorola Rizr rollable phone concept has a lot going for it. On our first look, it seems the company is tackling the small phone big phone dilemma. The Motorola Rizr offers both with a rollable twist. If you are unfamiliar with the mechanism, the display rolls to the top, which makes room for a much bigger screen real estate.

When the Motorola Rizr is in its compact form, it can easily be classified as a small form as it boasts a 5-inch POLED display with an aspect ratio of 15:9. When the display is rolled out, the display size adjusts to 6.5-inch with an aspect ratio of 22:9. The entire Android interface adopts the display with content stretching out to the corners.

Externally, the design of the Motorola Rizr is quite welcoming and very reminiscent of the Razr. That is probably the reason the company went with the Rizr naming scheme. The compact configuration is ideal for average use, giving you the portable aspect that we all look for in a smaller phone. Additionally, the extended configuration is best for gaming and media consumption.

The best part about the Motorola Rizr is the secondary display at the back. Make no mistake, the secondary display is part of the rollable panel when the phone is in its compact version. It shows the standard notifications and widgets with an always-on display showing the date, time, and weather at all times. Since it is a concept phone, Motorola added quirks to the mix. For instance, the secondary display shows a smiley or an animation facing the subject.

The Rizr's foldable mechanism works with a small motorized system to roll the display up or down. The concept phone features a 3,000 mAh battery which is not fit for the unrolled configuration. Since the concept phone features moving parts, the durability of the device is the main concern. Additionally, it is not necessary that the device sees daylight any time soon. Moreover, the company can ditch the concept altogether. You can check out more details here.
