Apple Mac Pro Identifier in iOS 16.4 beta

Apple is expected to introduce an all-new 15-inch MacBook Air in the coming months which will be powered by the M2 chip. In addition, the company is also rumored to launch its highly anticipated Mac Pro sometime this year with the same design as the current model. While exact details on the launch are scarce at this stage, a new "compute module" has been spotted in Apple's iOS 16.4 beta code. Scroll down to read more details on the subject.

The latest iOS 16.4 beta code references a new 'Compute Module' identifier, hinting at the upcoming Mac Pro or another device

According to 9to5mac, iOS 16.4 developer disk image references "ComputeModule" from the Xcode 16.4 beta. What this means is that the "ComputeModule" device either runs iOS or a supported version. According to the code, Apple is working on two different compute modules namely "ComputeModule13,1" and "ComputeModule13,3" identifiers.

Currently, we are not familiar with the device that corresponds to the Compute Module. What this means is that it could be a brand-new device that Apple is working on. We expect that the identifier could be the upcoming Mac Pro which has been rumored for a while or Apple's highly anticipated AR Headset. However, nothing can be said with certainty for now.

Apart from the device that it belongs to, it is also not clear what the module's purpose is. According to speculations, the module will allow a modular interface for interchangeable hardware components or offer additional computing power through Swift Distributed Actors. The Swift Distributed Actors can communicate with another process on the same computer or a separate computing device.

Apple also recently filed for Bluetooth 5.3 for an unknown device. The company is moving closer to the launch of the Mac Pro and we might see the final product in the coming months. As for what you should expect from the Mac Pro, it will feature the same design as the current model and will be powered by the M2 Ultra chipset. We will share more details on the topic as soon as further information is available.
