Destiny 2 Cheat Seller LaviCheats is Hit by $6.7m Lawsuit from Bungie

In a new (and very expected) turn of events, another cheat provider has been hit by Bungie's legal team in an effort to protect Destiny 2 and its integrity and playerbase. This time, it's a cheat seller known as LaviCheats, an entity that offers cheating technologies that are supposed to be undetectable. As of currently, LaviCheats offers cheats for games such as Elden Ring, Call of Duty, Overwatch, and Rainbow Six Siege, among others.

Bungie's lawsuit states that the company is currently seeking a total of $6.7 Million USD from LaviCheats. This translates to at least $2,000 for each of the 2,790 cheat software downloads that have been provided by LaviCheats through their website. The document (provided by Destiny Bulletin) states that the award that Bungie is seeking would have been larger as it is likely that the number of downloads could be underinclusive.

As mentioned previously, this isn't the first time Bungie has brought cheaters to the courtroom. Not too long ago, the creator of another software known as Elite Boss Tech was sued by Bungie. According to Bungie's allegations, the cheating software created by Elite Boss Tech was used in Destiny 2 over 6,765 times. The defendants ended up settling this lawsuit with a sum of $13.5 million, roughly $2000 per download and violation.

Bungie has also taken another group of cheaters in conjunction with Riot Games. Back in 2020, the developer took down a cheat seller known as GatorCheats. This was done through a lawsuit that involved several copyright infringement and violations of the anti-circumventiopn provisions of the DMCA code. While the case was settled with an injunction, it was a clear warning that Bungie would not tolerate any cases of cheating within the Destiny 2 community.

Of course, we don't know where this lawsuit will go from here as cases like this tend to take years to resxolve. After all, Destiny 2 is a very popular game with a very widespread fanbase. As one of the heads of the cheating software business gets taken down, another one pops up to sell and buy cheats and commit several transgressions, including griefing and other illicit activities.

The fight against cheaters continues raging on. With the upcoming Lightfall expansion on Destiny 2, it's no wonder that Bungie wants to ensure that players continue to play legitimately while keeping the malactors away from the game as much as possible.
