Apple to launch the 15-inch MacBook Air with the same design as the 13-inch model. slated to come with the M2 chip

According to a paywalled preview of a report shared by DigiTimes, Apple will launch new MacBook Air models in the second quarter as the first quarter saw low MacBook shipments. The report reads: "The first quarter of 2023 is expected to see Apple's MacBook shipping low, but the second quarter will see the release of a new MacBook Air series, according to industry sources." If you are not familiar, the second quarter will begin in April and end in June. The report could be hinting at Apple's highly rumored 15-inch MacBook Air.

Apple announced the M2 MacBook Air last year in June at its WWDC event. The machine featured a brand-new design that aligned with the 'Pro' models. According to our speculation, Apple will not release an updated version of its 13.6-inch MacBook Air. Instead, the company could potentially release its bigger 15-inch variant. The information was also recently shared by analyst Ross Young, suggesting that Apple will launch the 15-inch MacBook Air in "early April".

15-inch MAcBook Air with M2 chip launch

Another report from DigiTimes states that Apple's upcoming 15-inch MacBook Air will come equipped with an M2 chip. This is the same chip that powers the 13-inch model that Apple released last year. What this means is that the performance of the 15-inch MacBook Air will be identical to the 13-inch model. Prominent analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated last year that Apple's 15-inch MacBook Air could potentially house an M2 and M2 Pro chip. However, details on the specifications are scarce at this point as the final word rests with Apple.

In terms of design, it is very unlikely that Apple will launch the 15-inch MacBook Air with a design different from the 13-inch model. This is because Apple just refreshed the MacBook Air lineup with an all-screen display housing a notch and an overall slimmer profile. Henceforth, we expect the company to bring the same design forward with its forthcoming 15-inch model. However, since the overall form factor will b bigger, the 15-inch model could come with a bigger battery.
